Bio
Andy Sowell is a specialist in industrial real estate brokerage. Since joining Boyd Commercial in 2001, his focus has been on selling and leasing distribution and manufacturing facilities. A large segment of his business is representing land owners and investors in the sale of surplus land tracts as well as land acquisitions for development purposes. In October of 2006 Andy completed the process of earning the prestigious SIOR designation. The SIOR designation signifies that an individual has achieved high professional standards and a high level of competence and success in industrial and office real estate. Through continued education, Andy has committed himself to becoming one of the most capable brokerage practitioners in the market. Andy credits his success to taking the time to learn about his client’s business. This enables him to act as a partner with each client, resulting in very effective negotiations as well as superior customer service. In 2011, Andy was elected to the Board of Directors of the local chapter of SIOR, and in 2014 he began his service as President of the Houston / Gulf Coast chapter of SIOR. Andy was named as the Industrial Rising Star for 2005 by the National Association of Industrial and Office Professionals (NAIOP), as well as Heavy Hitter for 2005, 2010 and 2011 by the Houston Business Journal. Andy was the top producer at Boyd Commercial in 2005 and again in 2011 and remains as one of the top agents in the firm each year. In 2011, Andy became a Principal of the firm. Andy is a native Texan, and was born in Houston. He is a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin. He is an active member of St. Martins Episcopal Church, the Texas Exes (University of Texas Alumni group), and a member of The University of Texas “Chancellors Council”. Andy serves as President of Cancer Answers, the fundraising arm of the “Sowell-Huggins Endowed Scholarship” at the University of Texas Health Science Center. To date, Cancer Answers has raised more than $1,100,000 for cancer research and provided 80 graduate students more than $250,000 in scholarships. He and his wife Sherra live in the Memorial area of Houston with their twins, Jackson and Rachel. His whole family is very active in sports and enjoys spending time in the great outdoors.
