A great option for getting the word out about your firm is becoming an expert for your local media.  If they see you as an expert in commercial real estate, they will call and ask your opinion on articles they are writing – an easy way to get your name in print.

On today’s Marketing/PR webinar, CORFAC’s PR consultant, Gary Marsh, gave some tips on how to talk to the media, whether it’s for a story about the real estate market, your business, or a customer success story.  Here’s what Gary had to say:

  1. Proceed as if whatever you say to a reporter is on the record.  Being off the record complicates your message.
  2. When answering questions, speak slowly and in 25 word soundbites.  Stop talking after you answer so the reporter can take notes.
  3. Don’t ask to review a story before it is published.
  4. If you are concerned about being misquoted, as the reporter if they need clarification or to read back how they will quote you.
